PRESS RELEASE
The Santorini Arts Factory and the Industrial Tomato Museum “D. Nomikos” participate in the European Music Day!**
European Music Day, on June 21st each year, is a unique celebration that unites millions of people across Europe and the world through the magic of music.
The idea for Music Day was born in Paris in 1982, by the then French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang. His goal was to create an event that would offer free access to music for everyone, regardless of age, social class, or musical taste. The first Fête de la Musique marked the beginning of an institution that was quickly adopted by other countries, winning the hearts of Europeans.
Greece has a special relationship with European Music Day, as it was the first country to embrace the institution outside France, in 1985. Since then, Music Day has become an integral part of the Greek music scene, with events taking place in every corner of the country.
Santorini, with its enchanting landscape and rich cultural heritage, provides an ideal setting for Music Day. Every year, the island hosts a series of musical events, attracting both locals and visitors from around the world.
As European Music Day focuses on promoting live music and encouraging musicians to play in public spaces, the Santorini Arts Factory is bringing its festival piano to the courtyard of the Industrial Tomato Museum “D. Nomikos” and invites amateur and professional musicians to publicly play their favorite pieces.
This piano has been used by musicians from all over the world who have taken us on a journey through their melodies during the festival, and now it’s the visitors’ turn to participate in this musical journey.
The piano will remain in the museum’s courtyard from June 21st to June 23rd and will be available to the public during the museum’s operating hours. (10:00 – 18:00)
We invite everyone to celebrate Music Day with us and to invite online anyone you would like to see play the festival piano!
The Santorini Arts Factory, together with the Industrial Tomato Museum “D. Nomikos,” is celebrating 10 years of operation this year and will continue to showcase Santorini’s cultural heritage and support every cultural and artistic initiative with your help.
Thank you, and if you need additional material or information about SAF’s activities for European Music Day, do not hesitate to contact us.
