TAKIM / CAFÉ-AMAN

A musical journey through
EPIRUS, THE BALKANS, ISTANBUL, SMYRNA, USA
Written & creatively directed by Lambros Liavas

SANTORINI ARTS FACTORY

The summer season begins on a high note with TAKIM, taking their breakthrough show CAFÉ-AMAN to festivals and open-air venues all over the country! The band kicks off its long list of appearances at the Santorini Arts Factory on Thursday, June 1st, where TAKIM – six of the most important virtuosi in Greek folk music – invite audiences to join them on an enchanting journey through the musical history of the indomitable Greek spirit.

Café-Aman “Entertainment, the Greek way” will take center stage for a single evening – a unique music show, written and creatively directed by Lambros Liavas.

Stops along the way include Ioannina (“Yali Kafene”), the Balkans (“Greji-Hani”), Istanbul (“Despina’s Casino” at Kurtuluş, FKA Tatavla), Smyrna (beers on the promenade), as well as “Marika’s”, the first Café-Aman in New York, and “Katsaros” in Chicago.

An epic journey, an incessant give-and-take between people and cultures, East and West. Touching human stories unfold along the way, focusing on major virtuosi, instrumentalists and singers who left their mark on Greek music with well-loved songs, as well as a handful of hidden gems, just waiting to be discovered!

A thrilling tapestry of rare audiovisual material, timbres, tastes and colors, curated by the deeply knowledgeable Lambros Lavidas and performed by TAKIM, a band with a unique set of skills and sensibilities, consisting of: Alexandros Arkadopoulos (clarinet), Panos Dimitrakopoulos (qanun), Thomas Konstantinou (ud, lute), Yorgos Marinakis (violin), Kostas Meretakis (percussion), Yiannis Plagiannakos (bass).

Yiannis Niarchos and Katerina Tziviloglou appear on vocals, while actress Dimitra Stoyanni holds the role of narrator.
