The exhibition “Traces of Theraic Folklore”, which was presented with great success at the Tomato Industrial Museum “D. Nomikos”, returns to the Museum’s exhibition halls, updated and enriched, thanks to the strong impact it created on the island’s visitors and the wider public.
The exhibition highlights aspects of local identity, collective memory, and the intangible cultural heritage of Santorini. Authentic folkloric objects, traditional tools and archival material are displayed, shedding light on the daily life and traditional occupations of the islanders—such as the farmer, the cooper, and others. The visitor experience is further enhanced with digital informational material and audio excerpts, offering a vivid and multidimensional narrative.
A special section of the exhibition is dedicated to Manolis Lignos, who devoted his life to the study and preservation of Santorinian folklore, showcasing the enduring role of the Santorini Folklore Museum “Emm. A. Lignos” as a guardian of memory and tradition.
The warm response from the public and the keen interest of visitors strengthened the decision to continue hosting the exhibition at the Tomato Industrial Museum “D. Nomikos”, giving even more visitors the opportunity to discover firsthand the richness of Santorini’s folkloric heritage.
