The Archive

The historical archive of the D. Nomikos company revealed significant information about the company’s tomato factories in Vlychada and Monolithos, after its accidental discovery in Santorini.
Α part of it was found in 2015 by Mrs. Vani Vallianou Nomikos in a loft of the old flour mill in Fira, which today houses the Fabrica Shopping Center. The rest was discovered in 2019 in the loft of the factory in Monolithos, thanks to the valuable assistance of Mr. Lefteris Zorzos and his team.

Its value proved to be immense, as it contained a wealth of previously unknown information about the operation of D. Nomikos’ tomato factories at the time. Books with records from the weighing station, farmer payments and other financial data, invoices for equipment purchases, as well as photographic material, product labels, and much more.

This material was particularly valuable in documenting the mechanical equipment of the Tomato Industrial Museum “D.Nomikos”, as well as in highlighting historical facts and key information through its integration into the museum’s guided tour.

The archive was preserved by Mr. Konstantinos Tsourmas, an art conservator at the Historical Museum of Athens, while historian Mr. Yannis Stogiannidis, Assistant Professor in the Department of Archival, Library & Information Systems of the University of West Attica, along with his students Mr. Ioannis Fokas and Mr. Nikolaos Chrysovalantis, undertook its cataloging and archival organization.

In 2021, the company Unisystems contributed to the digitization of the historical archive, along with historical researcher Mr. Iosif Perros and historian, art history theorist and museologist Mrs. Eleftheria Iliadi, who organized and cataloged the material on the digital platform. This ensured easier processing and management while also protecting it from further deterioration.

The archive is not accessible to the general public, but visits can be arranged for researchers and historians by appointment.
