Exhibition opening and presentation about the industrial heritage of Santorini and Therasia.
On Saturday, July 11, 2026, the Tomato Industrial Museum “D. Nomikos” in Vlychada hosted the successful opening of the exhibition:
“INDUSTRIANA: The Industrial Heritage of Santorini and Therasia”
along with the presentation of the homonymous research program, funded by the Cycladic Identity Initiative of the Museum of Cycladic Art.
A large crowd, including local government representatives, cultural and scientific figures, professionals, residents, and friends of the Museum, attended the event. Visitors had the opportunity to explore a less known but vital aspect of the region’s history: the artisanal, pre-industrial, and industrial heritage of Santorini and Therasia.
The event was presented and moderated by journalist Andriana Paraskevopoulou. Welcoming remarks were delivered by the Mayor of Thira, Nikos Zorzos; Deputy Regional Governor Charalampos Darzentas; Vani Vallianou Nomikou, General Manager of the D. Nomikos Tomato Industrial Museum; Theano Agaloglou, Project Manager of the Cycladic Identity initiative; and Dr. Angeliki Kosmopoulou, Archaeologist, Strategic Narrative Consultant, and member of the Scientific Committee of the Cycladic Identity initiative.
Following the opening addresses, exhibition curators Nina Georgiadou and Lefteris Zorzos presented the findings of their multi-year research on theraic industrial heritage, as well as the content and philosophy behind the exhibition.
For the first time, the industrial heritage of Santorini and Therasia is presented in a comprehensive exhibition featuring historical documents, archival material, preserved objects, machinery, modern recordings, and oral histories. The INDUSTRIANA exhibition highlights the productive history of both islands and illuminates its contribution to shaping their economic, social, and cultural identity.
At the heart of the exhibition are the people who worked, created, and contributed to the region’s productive development. Their personal narratives and memories give a voice to this significant industrial wealth, connecting the past to the present and future generations.
The warm reception and intense public interest confirmed the necessity of documenting and promoting industrial heritage as a living, integral part of the collective memory and identity of Santorini and Therasia.

The exhibition is going to remain open to the public till October 31, 2026. From Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 – 18:00.
