Talk as part of the “INDUSTRIANA” exhibition

The Tomato Industrial Museum “D.Nomikos” invites you on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, at 19:00, to a talk entitled:

“A chance or predetermined event? Theran earth excavations, the 1866 volcanic eruption, and the emergence of prehistory in therasia and santorini in the 19th century”, presented by Dr Dimitra Douskou and Dr Iris Tzaxili.

The talk will take place as part of the programme of parallel events accompanying the exhibition “INDUSTRIANA: The Industrial Heritage of Santorini and Therasia.”

Dr Dimitra Douskou is a research associate at the Centre for Turkish, Ottoman, Balkan and Central Asian Studies (CETOBaC), EHESS/CNRS/Collège de France in Paris. Dr Iris Tzachili is Emerita Professor of Prehistoric Archaeology at the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete.

Alongside the talk, visitors will have the opportunity to join a guided tour of the exhibition with its curators and discover a selection of rare original books, engravings and maps documenting the volcanic eruptions of the period 1866–1870, from the Santorini Archive Project.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until 31 October 2026, Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–18:00.
