INDUSTRIANA: Santorini's industrial heritage comes to “life” at the Tomato Industrial Museum "D.Nomikos"

Exhibition and presentation on the industrial heritage of Santorini and Therasia

The Tomato Industrial Museum “D.Nomikos”, co-organised with the Theran Society of Arts and Sciences and in collaboration with the Cycladic Identity Initiative of the Museum of Cycladic Art, invites you on Saturday, 11 July 2026, at 19:00, to the opening of the exhibition:

“INDUSTRIANA: The industrial heritage of Santorini and Therasia”

as well as to the presentation of the Cycladic Identity Initiative’s research programme of the same name, that are going to take place at the Museum in Vlychada.

The exhibition has been developed by the Tomato Industrial Museum “D.Nomikos”, on the initiative and under the scientific curation of Lefteris Zorzos, Nikos Korakakis, Nina Georgiadou and Kostas Zaxariou with the generous support of D. Nomikos S.A.

The exhibition’s museological content is the result of many years of research conducted by the curatorial team on the industrial heritage of Thira, enriched by the contribution of the Tomato Industrial Museum “D.Nomikos” and dozens of collaborators. The exhibition is a continuation of the research programme of the same name, which was funded by the Cycladic Identity Initiative of the Museum of Cycladic Art during 2025–2026 through the Theran Society of Arts and Sciences.

Through raw materials, production facilities, industrial machinery and personal testimonies, the exhibition explores the artisanal, pre-industrial and industrial history of Santorini and Therasia. The museum narrative is supported by historical records, preserved artefacts, contemporary documentation and interviews with former workers. The initiative was born out of the organisers’ commitment to preserving the memories of the region’s inactive industrial heritage before they are lost.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Mr Nikos Zorzos, Mayor of Thira; Mrs Vani Vallianou Nomikou, General Director of the Tomato Industrial Museum “D.Nomikos”; Ms Theano Agaloglou, Project Manager of the Cycladic Identity Initiative; Dr Angeliki Kosmopoulou, Archaeologist, Strategic Narrative Advisor and Member of the Scientific Committee of the Cycladic Identity Initiative; and the exhibition’s curators. The event will be hosted by journalist Ms Adriana Paraskevopoulou.
