The program has been completed
What do we need to light a fire? Can we make colored fires? We will watch these and many more at the interactive Physics exhibition, March 9-15, 2020 at the Tomato Industrial Museum, “D. Lawyer” in Vlychada.
For the second consecutive year, the Tomato Industrial Museum “D. Nomikos” brings PLANET PHYSICS to Santorini with a unique interactive Physics exhibition! From March 9 to 15, 2020, knowledge becomes a game through experiential learning. Using impressive interactive exhibits, some of which are extremely rare even at the European level, visitors learn fundamental concepts of Physics…by playing!
A specially adapted program awaits to welcome primary and secondary school groups and beyond! During the exhibition, the students explore the Interactive Exhibits, while afterwards they watch the most impressive Physics experiments in Greece, always of course with the guidance of specialized staff.
This year’s experimental program concerns “Explosion and Ignition”.
Really, what will happen if we set fire to a balloon containing pure Oxygen? What if we try setting fire to a balloon with pure Hydrogen, which is an excellent fuel? What does liquid Oxygen look like? What will happen if we drop a lighted match into a container of liquid Oxygen? Can our intrepid Physicist set his hand on fire?
Through a unique experimental demonstration, we explore the magical world of ignition and explosion! We observe the “strange”, blue color of liquid oxygen, learn that liquid oxygen is magnetized, make fireballs and make explosions, in which the wave front breaks the sound barrier.
Opening hours of the exhibition:
Monday to Friday: 09:00 – 10:30, 11:00 – 12:30 (only for schools) and 17:30 – 19:00 for the public and Weekend: 11:00 – 12:30, 12:30 – 14:00 & 17:00 – 18:30.
