Recycle
Take Recycling into your own hands
Awareness Month for Recycling in Santorini
The Hellenic Society for Environment and Culture (ELLET), the Hellenic Society for Recycling (EEAA), the Center for the Management of Recyclable Materials (KDAY THIRAS) and the Tomato Industrial Museum (BIMT) invite you to an information event on recycling in Santorini .
PRESENTATION OF RECYCLING ACTION
The action aims to inform the public and professionals and to raise the awareness of students and citizens about the challenges and solutions that the correct operation of recycling can offer.
Recycling is the last link in the chain Prevent, Reuse, Recycle. Particularly in Santorini, due to the large volume of businesses active in tourism and catering, recyclable material constitutes the largest percentage of waste. Consequently, the correct management of recycling can contribute decisively to the significant reduction of the volume of waste that ends up in the existing landfill, where the issue of waste management is anyway a cutting edge issue for Santorini.
The Action consists of three parts that include a permanent Exhibition with informative material at the Tomato Industrial Museum, a Conference with speeches
by scientists with extensive experience in the subject, which will be followed by a discussion with the audience. The day is under the auspices of the Municipality of Thira
Finally, the excellent film “Trashed” (2012), an environmental documentary that follows actor Jeremy Irons as he investigates the impact of modern wasteful consumerism and human pollution, will be screened.
The detailed program follows.
