INDUSTRIANA: Santorini’s industrial heritage comes to life through film and play

A documentary screening and a free educational workshop for children at the Tomato Industrial Museum “D.Nomikos” on 31 October and 1 November 2026.

The Tomato Industrial Museum “D.Nomikos”, co-organised with the Thera Society of Arts and Sciences and in collaboration with the Cycladic Identity Initiative of the Museum of Cycladic Art, presents two days of events as part of the exhibition “INDUSTRIANA: The Industrial Heritage of Santorini and Therasia.”

The programme features a documentary exploring the industrial history of the two islands through archival material and first-hand accounts from former factory workers, alongside a free educational workshop inviting children to discover the area’s industrial past through play.

Industrial history through the voices of those who lived it

The documentary “The Industrial Heritage of Santorini and Therasia” sheds light on aspects of production and working life during the last century. Rare film footage, historical archives, photographs and contemporary recordings come together to create a valuable historical record, centred on the personal testimonies of people who worked in the islands’ industrial facilities.

The event will also include a guided tour of the INDUSTRIANA exhibition, a presentation of the Cycladic Identity Initiative and a discussion with the documentary’s contributors, focusing on the preservation and promotion of industrial heritage.

Sunday, 1 November 2026 | 11:00

“Follow the Clues!” | Free Educational Workshop for Children Aged 5–10

The INDUSTRIANA exhibition becomes an exploration ground for young visitors. Through an observation and discovery game, children are invited to seek out objects, images and drawings, uncover hidden details and record their discoveries in a specially designed activity booklet.

Guided by their curiosity and imagination, they will explore the industrial history of Santorini and Therasia in a creative, hands-on way.

Participation is free of charge. Advance registration is required by calling +30 22860 85141, as places are limited.
