PRESS RELEASE
NEW FALL EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN AT THE TOMATO INDUSTRIAL MUSEUM “D. NOMIKOS”
Santorini, Cyclades—both its past and present—are inextricably linked to the Cycladic Civilization and Greek Ceramics. A long history that begins in prehistoric times continues to the present day, where the 1st Biennale of Contemporary Ceramic Art is being hosted at the Museum of Prehistoric Thera.
At the same time, the Tomato Industrial Museum “D. Nomikos” and the Santorini Arts Factory are hosting exhibitions of contemporary ceramic art as part of the Biennale. With the start of the new school year, they are offering a series of free educational workshops for our young friends.
Every Saturday and Sunday, children will have the opportunity to discover Ceramic Art in Ancient Greece and the Cycladic Civilization through educational games, drawings, clay crafts, and the Museum Kits from the Museum of Cycladic Art, certified by the Ministry of Education.
The workshops will begin on Saturday, September 7th, and will conclude on Sunday, November 10th. They are aimed at students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades of elementary school, and early telephone registration is required to secure a spot.
**Every Saturday, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Ancient Greek Ceramics**
Children will interact with accurate replicas of black-figure and red-figure vases. Through rich educational material, they will gain knowledge about the construction and decorative techniques of the vases. Afterwards, they will have the chance to create their own ceramics, either with clay or through their drawings.
**Every Sunday, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Cycladic Civilization**
Children will become familiar with accurate replicas of Cycladic figurines, vessels, and tools, learning about the civilization that developed in the Cyclades in the 3rd millennium BC through rich educational material. At the end of the workshop, they will draw their own figurines or create them from clay.
