Under the auspices of the “1st Biennale of Contemporary Keramics”, in Santorini, in 2024, the “6exi Contemporary Ceramics” and “Sealed Earth Gallery” are organizing a double group exhibition titled “Visionaries of Yesterday, Teachers of Today”, “The Generation 50’s” with the participation of 9 iconic Ceramists and “Greek Ceramics Today” with representatives of the contemporary generation of Greek Ceramists, at the exhibition venue of the Industrial Tomato Museum, “D. Nomikos”, in Santorini.

The purpose of this exhibition is to address the important role of those Greek Ceramists, who through their devotion and the importance of their work stood as significant reference and inspiration to those who followed as subsequent representatives of contemporary Greek ceramics, preserving the bonds of this unique art form, called Ceramics, to the tendencies of the time, which were later evolved to an international level.

Their sensibility, Greek features, and endless will of experimentation are common elements of great significance, in the work of this group of artists, who promote the contemporary aspects of Ceramics through the Mediterranean tradition. Most of them are still of enormous importance, to Ceramics education in Greece, with an artistic presence of great influence, to those who follow up.

It is of great interest the personal approach, that the artists of modern times, try to interpret and adopt the works and teachings of the previous generation, combining the knowledge they acquired with the pieces of information and immediacy of images of the modern age. 20 younger Greek ceramists of significant artistic presence were chosen to promote the above interpretation.

Considering the importance of the Biennale of Contemporary Keramics being called upon to play in the preservation and evolution of modern Greek ceramics in the future, the upcoming exhibition aims to promote how knowledge is transmitted, evolved, and interpreted through the artist’s personal view. Through this way, she gives prominence to the elements, which, consciously or not, create the chainrings, that connect us to tradition and bond us, at the same time, to all global modern artistic tendencies.
